Final Championship round of 2023! Nash & Boraston 10K Dash.

It’s a wrap!

Well done to all of our runners this season, you have all worked so so hard, kept turning up and always with a smile bringing that unforgettable CMRC energy to each venue. What a year its been for all of our runners, and dedicated support crew too!

There has been so many PB’s this year, remember Worcester 10K? What an unbelievable morning that was! And Cardiff!!…Well, that one has got many of us hungry for the SuperHalfs challenges.

As for the Fast and Furious rounds; we think a lot of us are happy the heat of those are behind us! Just nobody mention Church Stretton………ooh I think I need to sit down, give me a minute….

Nash and Boraston 10K Dash was our last venue for the Club Championships. A small local village in the south of Shropshire, the event is run by the local community and by some of those who bring us the Tenbury 10K. As the area is situated functionally on the side of Clee Hill, an undulating course is expected. But never fear, Cleobury is here! And we aren’t afraid of a hill…..or ten*….

*slight exaggeration, but it feels like it!!!….

The race reports for this round come from Jon and Emily.

Jon is still fairly new to the club, and a local runner being introduced to CMRC by friend and club runner Richard. He has gone from strength to strength this season proving consistency pays off! At Nash & Boraston, Jon got a course PB coming in with a fantastic 56.27. With a total elevation of around 779ft, that is no mean feat. Well done Jon.

“Nash and Boraston Dash is a hard going and hilly course. I was very happy to finally get under the hour, and a course PB. It is a well organised event and the cakes afterward make it worthwhile”.

Jon Pilson.

Each year at Nash and Boraston, the locals join forces and hand bake all the food and cake for the runners and supporters at the end. And what a spread it was. It even included hot homemade soup!

The course starts in Nash, where it heads east and then north, taking a clockwise route toward Bickley before coming on the return west toward Knighton-on-Teme and Boraston. The route is very scenic, with views around the Clee and toward Lindridge. Sometimes on a clear day, you can even see a bit of Wales!

Each twist and turn of the lanes revealed a surprise incline, some being shorter and sharper than others; it really gets the heartrate going and the teeth clenching!

“Nash and Boraston is a beautiful quiet area, until the runners appear and the cow bells start clanging! I love this event, as it is where I live so I always enter and provide my support. It would be daft not to. It is also quite novel to roll out of bed straight to the start line!

The route is tough, but so so rewarding. It feels like a little journey off into the hills, with a warm welcome return back into the villages full of smiling and clapping locals. It’s really lovely when people stand on their doorstep and in the fields cheering you on. Its also really special to have the club supporters come and watch each event, eager for you to succeed.

I got a course PB from last year, which was a nice surprise, and the engraved memorial trophy for highest scoring local runner. I was genuinely bowled off my feet and sort of froze when my name was called. Bit emotional!

I am personally very proud of everyones achievements this year. Watching everyone just soar through the season has been so exciting.

Thanks Nash & Boraston, no doubt I’ll see you again next year!”

Emily Holland.
